Early in the morning you will be picked up at your hotel in the city and enjoy a scenic drive through small towns and lush green landscapes to reach Irazú Volcano. The view of the Central Valley from the mountain road is simply beautiful! First, you will continue ascending to the summit of Irazú Volcano, located at 3,432 meters above sea level (note that it can be quite cold at the summit). On clear days you can see the coast. After visiting the volcano, you will stop in the town of Cartago to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels, an important pilgrimage site for Costa Ricans. It treasures a vast collection of small gold and silver medals shaped like body parts that pilgrims bring as a sign of gratitude for having healed. The journey will then take you to the Lankester Botanical Garden near Orosí, which proudly maintains an extensive collection of orchids and bromeliads as well as an impressive variety of native plants. Subsequently, you will explore the surroundings of the picturesque and historic Central Valley and see Costa Rica's oldest church, the colonial church of Orosi dating back to 1767. After a day full of nature and history, you will return to San José.

Breakfast and at a convenient time a representative from the car rental company will contact you at your hotel to complete the delivery of your rental vehicle. Today's destination is La Fortuna, with its main attraction and very impressive volcano, with an almost perfect cone of 1,670 meters above sea level. Activity has decreased in recent years, but the mere image of this colossus is a natural spectacle. Accommodation in La Fortuna.

Free time to explore one of the most popular and spectacular tourist destinations in the area. La Fortuna is one of the most complete destinations with a wide variety of activities to offer; from adrenaline-pumping activities like canopy, rafting, safari, horseback riding, rappelling, bike tours; to natural hikes, caves, waterfalls, hanging bridges, and relaxing thermal-mineral baths from a volcanic vein. Breakfast and at your convenience drive toward the mountains of Guanacaste, where we will arrive at the foothills of Rincón de la Vieja National Park, which will offer us a dry forest combined with volcanic environment and will reward us with landscapes that are timeless. This is a wonderful natural park; due to its location, it is one of the least visited in the country, but that means the trails are peaceful and completely at your own pace. There is much to see such as an atypical volcano in its geography, meadows, waterfalls, mud baths, steam vents, among others. Accommodation in the Rincón de la Vieja area.

Free time to explore the different activities offered by Rincón de la Vieja National Park. You can enjoy the Guanacaste climate by horseback riding, canopy, or hiking through the national park that offers thermal waters, mud pots, fumarolic lagoons, the small volcano and jungle waterfalls, offering you a wonderful show, better than any other volcano in the country. Accommodation in the Rincón de la Vieja area.
Please note that Rincón de la Vieja National Park is closed on Mondays and entrance tickets must be reserved online to guarantee availability. Only credit card payment is accepted at the entrance, with presentation of your reservation and an identification document. To reach the park entrance, you will need to cross the private property of Hacienda Guachipelín, where a fee of approximately USD 2 per person will be charged if you do not have a night reservation.

This area is famous for its spectacular beaches that offer more than 200 km of extension; which are blessed by pleasant weather, sands ranging from pure white to dark ash-colored grains and their crystal-clear waters with their variety of blue tones. The rental vehicle is available during the day if you wish to plan any activity, such as a visit to a coffee plantation in the province of Alajuela.
We recommend that you present yourself at the car rental company's airport office 3.5 hours before your flight departure to return the vehicle. The car rental company will then take you to Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José on a shared transport service so you can board your flight home.
