Day 1: Guatemala City Airport - Guatemala
Reception at the airport and transfer to our hotel in Guatemala City. Accommodation.
Day 2: Guatemala City - Giant Kites - Chichicastenango
Breakfast. In the morning, departure toward the Guatemalan highlands. Today we will participate in a celebration of color, tradition and culture in Sumpango, an indigenous town that celebrates on November 1st one of the most authentic traditions of the country. In this town, for many months they prepare the making of giant kites, made with tissue paper and bamboo canes, up to 20 meters in diameter. We will appreciate the diversity of multicolored figures that rise to the sky to show the way to the souls of the deceased. After this experience, we will continue toward Chichicastenango, where Day of the Dead is lived in a very special way with the colorful setting up of altars, visits to the cemetery adorned with flowers and kites, and Mayan ceremonies in honor of their deceased. We will find the typical dishes of this season: fiambre, bread of the dead, candied squash, churros, among others, a real gastronomic feast that invites us to taste. Accommodation.
Day 3: Chichicastenango - San Juan La Laguna - Lake Atitlán
Breakfast. This day we will have an experiential activity, we will conduct a corn workshop with local women, the basic food of Guatemala. After the workshop we will continue toward Lake Atitlán, which Huxley said was the most beautiful lake in the world, where a boat awaits us to visit one of the twelve towns surrounding this beautiful lake. We will meet the Tzutuhil town of San Juan La Laguna characterized by the harmony in which its inhabitants coexist with nature and culture. We will walk through its streets to observe the open-air murals that decorate its streets, created by talented local artists. We will tour art galleries and visit the cooperative of the women weavers group where they will show us the weaving and dyeing process based on natural dyes obtained from seeds and plants. In the afternoon, return to the hotel. Accommodation.
Day 4: Lake Atitlán - Iximché - Visit Antigua - La Antigua
Breakfast. In the morning departure toward the colonial city. On the way, we will visit the archaeological site of Iximché, former capital of the Cakchiquel Maya kingdom. Upon our arrival in La Antigua, visit to this colonial city declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, we will learn about its main streets and monuments. In the background, Water Volcano will be a silent witness to our walk. Accommodation.
Day 5: La Antigua
Breakfast. We will have a free day to enjoy La Antigua, strolling through its cobblestone streets, appreciating its architectural styles of yesteryear or resting in the hotel facilities. As an optional activity, during the morning, we recommend taking an excursion to Pacaya Volcano. Accommodation.
Day 6: La Antigua - Guatemala City Airport - Petén
Breakfast. Transfer to Guatemala City airport to take a local flight to Petén. Reception and transfer to the hotel. Free afternoon to enjoy the hotel facilities and its natural surroundings, visit Flores Island or take an optional excursion to Yaxhá. Accommodation.
Day 7: Petén - Tikal - Guatemala City
Breakfast. Today we will visit Tikal, the largest of the known Mayan cities. According to calculations by some archaeologists, up to 100,000 people lived in Tikal. Today, after more than a thousand years since its abandonment, the buildings still stand fighting against vegetation that struggles to engulf them. We will see the Central Plaza with the Great Jaguar Temple and the Great Pyramid, the Acropolis and Temple IV, from whose summit you can see over 50 km of virgin jungle. Lunch at a restaurant within the archaeological site. In the afternoon, transfer to the airport to take the return flight to Guatemala City. Reception and transfer to the hotel. Accommodation.
Day 8: Guatemala City - Guatemala Airport
Breakfast. Transfer to Guatemala City airport.
End of our services.
