Day of the Dead

Day 1: Guatemala Airport - Guatemala
Reception at the airport and transfer to our hotel in Guatemala Ciudad. Overnight stay.
Day 2: Guatemala Ciudad - Giant Kites - Chichicastenango
Breakfast. Morning departure for the Guatemalan highlands. We will participate in the vibrant traditions of Sumpango, where the local community celebrates November 1st with giant kites. These kites, made of tissue paper and bamboo, can reach 20 meters in diameter and are flown to guide the souls of the departed. Later, we continue to Chichicastenango to experience the Day of the Dead, featuring colorful altars, decorated cemeteries, and Mayan ceremonies. Seasonal gastronomic specialties like fiambre, pan de muertos, and dulce de ayote are available to taste. Overnight stay.
Day 3: Chichicastenango - San Juan La Laguna - Lago Atitlán
Breakfast. We begin with an experiential corn workshop led by local women. Afterward, we head to Lago Atitlán to take a boat to San Juan La Laguna. We will walk through streets decorated with murals by local artists, visit art galleries, and explore a women's weaving cooperative to learn about natural dyeing and weaving processes. Return to the hotel in the afternoon. Overnight stay.
Day 4: Lago Atitlán - Iximché - Antigua Visit - La Antigua
Breakfast. Morning departure for the colonial city. On the way, we visit the Iximché archaeological site, the ancient Cakchiquel capital. Upon arrival in La Antigua, a UNESCO World Heritage site, we will explore its historic monuments and streets, with the Agua Volcano as a backdrop. Overnight stay.
Day 5: La Antigua
Breakfast. Free day to explore the cobblestone streets and architecture of La Antigua or relax at the hotel. Optional morning excursion to Pacaya Volcano available. Overnight stay.
Day 6: La Antigua - Guatemala Ciudad Airport - Petén
Breakfast. Transfer to the Guatemala Ciudad airport for a local flight to Petén. Reception and transfer to the hotel. Free afternoon to enjoy the natural surroundings, visit Flores Island, or take an optional excursion to Yaxhá. Overnight stay.
Day 7: Petén - Tikal - Guatemala Ciudad
Breakfast. Today we visit Tikal, the largest of the known Maya cities. Archaeologists estimate that up to 100,000 people once lived here. Over a thousand years after its abandonment, the structures remain standing amidst the dense jungle vegetation. We will explore the Central Plaza, featuring the Temples of the Great Jaguar and the Great Pyramid, the Acropolis, and Temple IV, which offers views over 50 km of virgin rainforest from its summit. Lunch is included at a restaurant within the archaeological site. In the afternoon, transfer to the airport for your flight back to Guatemala Ciudad. Reception and transfer to the hotel. Overnight stay.
Day 8: Guatemala Ciudad - Guatemala Airport
Breakfast. Transfer to Guatemala Ciudad airport.
