Day 1: Guatemala Airport - La Antigua (Tuesday)
Airport reception, assistance and transfer to the hotel in La Antigua. Accommodation.
Day 2: La Antigua - CIRMA Photo Library - La Antigua
Breakfast. In the morning, transfer to CIRMA's Photo Library, where we will have a presentation on the history of photography in Guatemala given by this institution. Next, presentation of the photographer who will accompany us throughout the trip; with him we will review the different technical levels and photographic equipment of each participant, discuss the objectives of the trip and the regions of the country we will visit. Accompanied by a local guide, we will continue our walk through the cobblestone streets of Antigua that will transport us to the 16th century. We will start at Cerro de la Cruz, from where we can appreciate a spectacular view of the colonial city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will pass by the Cabildo and the Palace of the Captains General, the La Merced Church, San Francisco and some other colonial corners. Accommodation.
Day 3: La Antigua - Chichicastenango - San Antonio - Santa Catarina - Lake Atitlán
Breakfast. Today, accompanied by the photographer, we will head to the Guatemalan highlands towards the town of Chichicastenango, where we will explore one of the most renowned indigenous markets in all of Latin America. In the afternoon, we will continue towards Lake Atitlán, which Huxley said was the most beautiful lake in the world, with its three volcanoes and twelve indigenous towns. With the afternoon light, we will visit the towns of Santa Catarina and San Antonio Palopó. Accommodation.
Day 4: Lake Atitlán - San Juan La Laguna - Santiago Atitlán - Guatemala City
Breakfast. Today we will take a boat to visit two of the twelve towns surrounding this beautiful lake. We will explore the Tzutuhil town of San Juan La Laguna, characterized by the harmony in which its residents coexist with nature and culture. We will continue to Santiago Atitlán, a town inhabited by Tzutuhil indigenous people who live from fishing and crafts, although they are better known as worshippers of a Mayan-Catholic deity they call Maximón. In the afternoon we will return to Guatemala City. Accommodation.
Day 5: Guatemala City - Airport - Livingston
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport to take the flight to Puerto Barrios, Izabal, one of Guatemala's natural wonders. Reception and transfer to the dock to take the boat to Livingston. Accommodation.
Day 6: Izabal Area - Río Dulce - Petén
Breakfast. In the morning, we will take a boat trip along Río Dulce, a place of exceptional ecological richness. After the navigation we will continue towards the Petén rainforest. Accommodation.
Day 7: Petén - Tikal - Guatemala
Breakfast. Today we will visit the Mayan city of Tikal, the jewel of the classical Mayan world. Lunch and transfer to Flores airport to take the flight to Guatemala. Reception and transfer to the hotel. Accommodation.
Day 8: Guatemala - Guatemala Airport
Breakfast. Transfer to Guatemala City airport.
