Colonial Mexico: Historic Towns

Day 1: Airport - México
Arrival and reception at the Mexico City International Airport. Transfer to the hotel and overnight stay.
Day 2: México - Basilica of Guadalupe - Xochimilco
Breakfast. Morning panoramic tour of the city, including the Plaza de las Tres Culturas, the historic center featuring the Zócalo and Metropolitan Cathedral, the Aztec Templo Mayor, Chapultepec Park, and Paseo de la Reforma. We then visit the BASILICA OF GUADALUPE, the most visited Catholic shrine in the Americas, exploring both the 18th-century basilica and the modern temple. In the afternoon, we head to XOCHIMILCO to enjoy a traditional "trajinera" boat ride through its historic canals and gardens. In the evening, dinner is included at a local restaurant, followed by a visit to Plaza de Garibaldi, famous for its traditional mariachi music, cantinas, and vibrant atmosphere.
Day 3: México - El Oro de Hidalgo - Mina de las Dos Estrellas - Tlalpujahua - Pátzcuaro
Breakfast. We first visit the "Pueblo Mágico" of EL ORO DE HIDALGO, a former mining hub with European-style architecture, such as the Juárez Theater. Our route continues through the forests where Monarch butterflies winter, leading to LA MINA DE LAS DOS ESTRELLAS, a mine-museum showcasing the region's industrial history. Next, we visit TLALPUJAHUA in Michoacán, a town famous for its Baroque sanctuary and artisanal Christmas ornaments. Time for lunch (not included). We conclude the day in PÁTZCUARO, one of Mexico's most beautiful colonial towns, known for its indigenous roots, colonial architecture, and craft markets.

Day 4: Pátzcuaro - Morelia - Guadalajara
Breakfast. Departure for MORELIA, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the capital of Michoacán. The city is famous for its pink quarry stone architecture, the Cathedral, and the Plaza de Armas. After time for lunch, we continue to CUITZEO DEL PORVENIR, located by Mexico's second-largest lake, to see the 16th-century Santa María Magdalena Convent. Finally, we arrive in GUADALAJARA, the capital of Jalisco and the birthplace of Mariachi and Tequila.

Day 5: Guadalajara
Breakfast. Morning tour of Guadalajara, exploring its colonial historic center, the Cathedral, and the Plaza Tapatía. We will visit the Hospicio Cabañas, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Afterward, we depart for the "Pueblo Mágico" of TEQUILA, including a visit and tasting at the MUNDO CUERVO distillery to learn about the production of Mexico’s national drink. Free time for lunch (not included) before returning to Guadalajara.

Day 6: Guadalajara - Guanajuato
Breakfast. Departure for the state of GUANAJUATO. In the afternoon, we enjoy a tour of this beautiful university city, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its narrow alleys and historic temples. We will ride the funicular up to "El Pípila" for a panoramic view of the city.

Day 7: Guanajuato - Dolores Hidalgo - San Miguel de Allende - Querétaro
Breakfast. We travel through the mountains to DOLORES HIDALGO, the birthplace of Mexican independence. We then continue to SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE, a stunning UNESCO World Heritage city known for its colonial architecture and cobblestone streets. In the afternoon, we visit the Sanctuary of ATOTONILCO, also a World Heritage site (interior access is subject to availability). Finally, we arrive in QUERÉTARO to explore its colonial center, Plaza de Armas, and lively pedestrian streets.

Day 8: Tula - Puebla - Val’Quirico - México
Breakfast. Departure for TULA to visit the archaeological site of the ancient Toltec capital, famous for the "Atlantes," imposing four-meter-high warrior statues. We then travel to PUEBLA, a historic city renowned for its culinary tradition, colonial architecture, and Talavera pottery. After visiting the Cathedral and the Zócalo, we proceed to VAL’QUIRICO, a unique development inspired by the Tuscan countryside and medieval European architecture. Return to Mexico City.
Day 9: México - Airport
Breakfast. At the scheduled time, transfer to the Mexico City airport.
