Afternoon free, we suggest visiting the crafts museum, the candy museum or, if you wish, you can attend a night tour of legends, which is sold beside the cathedral by characters dressed in colonial period attire. Do not miss the cathedral's light show at 20:45 hrs, which is free every Saturday (check with your hotel for information about this show).
Accommodation.
Day 3: Morelia - Janitzio Island in Pátzcuaro - Morelia
Breakfast. November 1st is very important throughout Mexico; however, the most beautiful scene can be found on Janitzio Island. A Purépecha legend says that when souls die, they fly like monarch butterflies over an enchanted lake to Janitzio Island. You only need to open your heart so that, when crossing by boat, on the lake you can see souls take shape among the waters of Lake Pátzcuaro. The island is illuminated with candles and Day of the Dead altars. These altars stand upon graves and in them we can observe the very essence of our deceased, as they contain, among other things, photographs of our loved one, so they know which is their offering and upon their return to the World of the Living, they can approach to taste the delicious dishes they loved in life. We are the ones who place their favorite foods, as well as objects they used or that characterized them. Return to hotel.
Day 4: Morelia - Papel Picado Workshop - Morelia
Breakfast. We will begin our day with a city tour of Morelia, one of Mexico's most beautiful and important tourist destinations due to its invaluable cultural and historical heritage. It is considered the ideological cradle of the Independence Movement and hosts renowned international music and film festivals. We will also learn about one of Mexico's oldest crafts: papel picado.
We will attend an artisanal workshop to learn about the history and process of creating this tool that allows us to depict all kinds of figures. You will have the opportunity to make your own papel picado and take home a memory of Mexico. Afternoon free. Accommodation.
Day 5: Morelia - Tlaquepaque - Dinner at Casa Bariachi Restaurant
Breakfast. At the agreed time, we will depart Morelia to arrive in the lands of Jalisco at the beautiful artisan village of Tlaquepaque. You will have time for lunch (not included). In the evening we will head to Casa Bariachi restaurant where you will enjoy a delicious dinner accompanied by a show featuring Folk Ballet presentations and live mariachi. (Beverages and gratuities not included).
Day 6: Tequila - Guadalajara
Breakfast. Today we will visit Tequila and tour the Mundo Cuervo Tequila distillery in Jalisco, where we can learn about the production process and taste some of its tequilas: white and aged. We will then visit the magical village of Tequila where your traveler can enjoy the main attractions such as the rich gastronomy of the village or shop for souvenirs and take home a nice memento from Tequila. We will proceed with a tour that includes a panoramic visit of the city's main avenues. Upon arrival at the historic center, we will begin a walking tour of the main monuments. Afternoon free. Accommodation.
Day 7: Guadalajara - Guanajuato
Breakfast. We will continue to Guanajuato, capital of the state. We will stroll through its alleys and historic streets. We will arrive at Plaza del Ropero where we will find the statue of Jorge Negrete, a Mexican singer who has served as inspiration for many international films. Return to hotel and accommodation.
In the evening we can enjoy the "Callejoneada", a spectacle through the most important alleys of Guanajuato city, which are toured accompanied by a student musical group. The group performs dances, songs and other talent demonstrations that allow us to catch the magic of the city.
Day 8: Mexico City
Breakfast. At the agreed time, we will depart the Mexican Bajío to return to Mexico City, but on the way we will visit the magical village of Dolores Hidalgo, the cradle of Mexican independence, but even more important to us, the place where the remains of Jose Alfredo Jimenez rest, an icon in Mexican ranchera music.
We will visit the Dolores cemetery to appreciate the mausoleum where year after year tribute is paid to the interpreter of "Deja que salga la Luna". We will continue our journey to Mexico City, arrival at hotel and accommodation.
Day 9: Mexico City - Airport
Breakfast. Our adventure has come to an end and our ancestors have returned to the Kingdom of the Dead. It is time to let them rest and remember them, prepare the offering for next year, keep their photos and miss them every day. They are happy, at peace and do not want us to shed tears of sadness. They have had to migrate, but someday we will be with them and reunite. "Life is temporary, but families are eternal." It is time to take our flight home and return with a smile on your face.
