Day 1: Belize Airport - San Ignacio
Reception and transfer to San Ignacio. Accommodation at the hotel of your choice.
Day 2: San Ignacio - Caracol - San Ignacio
Breakfast, departure from the hotel toward Mountain Pine Ridge. After 2 hours of travel south, we arrive at this beautiful forest reserve covering an extensive area. Here you will find a scenic combination of pine forests, fresh streams, lush river valleys, caves, and waterfalls. We begin with a visit to one of the most important Mayan Archaeological Sites, "CARACOL" - discovered in 1938 and later explored in the 1950s. Caracol was initially thought to be a Mayan ceremonial center. It was not until 1985 that the importance and extent of Caracol became known. In 1986, carved altar stones were discovered describing a Caracol victory over Tikal, establishing Caracol as the most powerful Mayan metropolis. This discovery filled an important gap in Mayan history, spanning approximately 140 years in the Middle Classic period, positioning Caracol as the "Supreme" Mayan city. The largest pyramid at Caracol, Canaa (Maya meaning "place of sky"), rises 140 feet and is the tallest man-made structure in all of Belize. Box lunch included. We then continue the tour to Rio Frío Cave, the largest cave in Belize, and the natural pools of the same river. Later return to the hotel in San Ignacio.
Day 3: San Ignacio - ATM - San Ignacio
Breakfast, departure to Actun Tunichil Muknal - undoubtedly the most fascinating experience this beautiful destination "Belize" has to offer. Once we arrive at the nature reserve, we will be provided with helmets and flashlights. We begin the hike that will take us to the cave: entry is made by swimming and then we begin walking through the interior of the cave and within the river bed. In some sections, the water level will reach chest height; in others, we will need to swim, and we will also have to pass through a labyrinth of rocks to reach the main chamber of the cave, which will surprise you with its beautiful formations and impact you upon seeing the offerings left by the Maya to their deities - vessels, funerary urns, jade, and even human remains, making this place a unique and incomparable site. Box lunch included. Return to the hotel in San Ignacio. (For this tour you will need: water footwear, a change of dry clothes for the return, and should not suffer from claustrophobia)
Day 4: San Ignacio - Zoo - Cayo Ambergris
Breakfast. On the way, we will visit the Belize Zoo. It is located at mile 31 on the western highway, approximately 40 minutes by car from Belize City. Only native species are found in the zoo, all of which have been either rescued or donated by owners who could not properly care for the animals. The "guests" are housed in large enclosures containing what would be their natural habitat. Birds, cats, crocodiles, monkeys - the list seems endless. A great opportunity to see and photograph jungle animals not easily seen in nature. Later transfer to take a flight to Cayo Ambergris. Reception and transfer to the hotel of your choice.
