Reception and transfer to the hotel of your choice. Accommodation.
Day 2: Belize City - Lamanai - Belize
Breakfast, one-hour transfer to Orange Walk (the Sugar City) where the dock is located to board the boat to navigate the New River. You will take a tour along the river for just over an hour. This area of great ecological richness is home to howler monkeys and spider monkeys, iguanas, crocodiles and dozens of exotic bird species. When the Spanish arrived in this area, they found the Mayan people occupying ancient Lamanai (submerged crocodile), a site that dates back to pre-classical times - therefore one of the oldest. During your journey through the jungle trails you will be able to admire the architecture of this ancient civilization. The stone face of a Mayan deity gazes silently westward in a temple, casting stone eyes toward the sunset. The circuit takes visitors through other plazas with temples that reach the skies - once again, a reminder of the cosmological religion of this ancient civilization. After lunch (included) served in thatched huts beside the lagoon, you will return to your accommodation.
Day 3: Belize City - Zipline - Cave - San Ignacio
Breakfast. Departure toward Cayo District - en route you will enjoy a fabulous Zipline (Canopy) tour through the jungle with more than 8 platforms at different heights that will increase your adrenaline - then you will experience Cave Tubing, a relaxing journey through an underground river inside a cave that will allow you to observe strange rock formations, small waterfalls and enjoy a refreshing swim. Then you will enjoy a delicious lunch (included) - later departure to San Ignacio, accommodation.
Day 4: San Ignacio - Caracol - San Ignacio
Breakfast. Hotel departure toward Mountain Pine Ridge, after 2 hours of travel southward you will arrive at this beautiful forest reserve, which spans an extensive area where you will find a scenic combination of pine forests, fresh streams, lush river valleys, caves and waterfalls. You will begin with a visit to one of the most important Mayan archaeological sites, CARACOL. Discovered in 1938 and later explored in the 1950s, Caracol was thought to be a Mayan ceremonial center. It was not until 1985 that the importance and extent of Caracol became known. In 1986, an altar-type carved stone was discovered describing a victory of Caracol over Tikal, making Caracol the most powerful Mayan metropolis. This discovery filled an important missing piece of Mayan history, spanning approximately 140 years in the Middle Classical period, and establishes Caracol as the Supreme Mayan city. The largest pyramid in Caracol, Canaa (Mayan means place of sky) rises 140 feet and is the tallest man-made structure in all of Belize. Box lunch included. The tour continues in the Rio Frío cave, the largest in Belize, and in the natural pools of the same river. Later return to the hotel in San Ignacio.
Day 5: San Ignacio - ATM - San Ignacio
Breakfast. Departure toward Actun Tunichil Muknal, undoubtedly the most fascinating experience this beautiful destination offers. Upon arrival at the nature reserve you will be provided with a helmet and flashlight to begin the hike that will take you to the cave. Entry is made by swimming and then you will hike through the interior and within the river bed, in some sections the water level will reach chest height. In other sections you will need to swim, and also navigate through a maze of rocks until you reach the main chamber of the cave, which will amaze you with its beautiful formations and offerings that the Mayans left to their deities, vessels, funeral urns, jade, and even human remains, making this a unique and unparalleled site. Box lunch included. Return to the hotel in San Ignacio.
Day 6: San Ignacio - Blue Hole - Placencia
Breakfast. Morning transfer to Blue Hole National Park. Entrance fee and lunch included. Blue Hole National Park is located 12 km southeast of Belmopán. It is a popular recreation area where water, on its way from a tributary of the Sibun River, emerges from a collapsed karst sinkhole. The pool, from which the park takes its name, has a beautiful sapphire blue color and is 25 meters deep. In addition to the pool, Blue Hole features St. Hermans cave. This cave, located within the reserve boundaries, offers tubing tours and jungle hiking.
Day 7: Placencia - Jaguar Sanctuary - Placencia
Breakfast. Departure toward Cockscomb Wildlife Sanctuary. Located in southern Belize, this reserve is one of Belize's most fascinating areas. Its jungle, like the terrain in Stann Creek district, extends below the jagged peaks of the Maya Cockscomb Range, and eastward toward the sea. Declared a national reserve and a NO HUNTING zone in 1984, it was established to protect the large jaguar population and diverse fauna and flora. The lush jungle of the Cockscomb ridge is also a paradise for bird watchers. More than 290 species have been recorded, including the scarlet macaw.
